Verlander Wins Both Cy Young and MVP

Justin Verlander, ace pitcher of the Detroit Tigers, won both the AL Cy Young Award and was also MVP of the AL.  Without a doubt Justin Verlander had a great year and was virtually unhittable most of the year but was he really deserving of the MVP?  How can a guy who only contributes to one of every five games be named MVP of the league when he only plays in possibly 40 games?  I believe the Cy Young is the MVP award for pitchers which he deservingly achieved but then why give him the MVP award also?  The MVP award should go to a position player who contributes to every game and has an impact on whether they win or lose night in and night out.  Sure when Verlander pitched he contributed to the game but he only contributed in 21% of the games played in that year.  In no other sport can you only participate in 21% of the games and still win the MVP, it's just not possible.  Congrats to Justin Verlander on his accomplishments during the season but I do not believe he is to be called the MVP.

Coack K Gets 903rd Win

Mike Krzyewski talks to Bob Knight after
passing him as the all-time winninest
coach in division one history
Mike Krzyewski passed Bob Knight as the all-time winningest coach in division one history on November 15th.  Mike Krzyewski's Duke Blue Devils took down Tom Izzo's Michigan State Spartans to achieve his 903rd victory.  This is truly and incredible accomplishment.  He has coached 36 years in division one basketball (5 years at Army, 31 years at Duke).  He will easily go down as the best college coach of all time and even has a chance to achieve 1,000 wins!  He has made Duke into a national powerhouse in basketball and has won 4 national championships (1991, 1992, 2001, 2010). It is truly incredible to think about what Coach Mike Krzyewski has achieved and I doubt that anyone will ever come close to passing him in wins in division one history.

Could Ohio State Win 7th Straight Big Ten Title?

The Ohio State started off the year with much controversy and questions entering the season.  Scandals surrounded the team and players were suspended.  With 5 players suspended, a new coach, and a very inexperienced team, nobody expected anything great from this team.  After getting pounded by Miami U, new head coach Luke Fickell turned to freshman quarterback Braxton Miller in hopes to improve the offense.  After back to back losses in the Big Ten to Nebraska and Michigan State, it seems as though they had no chance of winning the Big Ten and would be lucky to even go to a bowl game.  Then surprisingly enough, Ohio State has bounced back with two great wins over Illinois and Wisconsin and is tied for second place in the Big Ten.  If Ohio State wins out and Penn State loses two games, Ohio State will advance to the Big Ten championship and have a chance to win it's 7th Big Ten title.  Nobody could of predicted this good of a season from Ohio State.
